HALLAM Senior College’s senior girls football team’s 41-game winning streak has ended with defeat by the closest of margins.

Box Hill Senior Secondary College inflicted the one-point defeat in the School Sports Victoria semi-final last week.

The Hallam girls started slowly in the match in their campaign to win their fourth consecutive SSV flag. Coach Brett Alexander said his players “awoke from their slumber” in the second half to level the scores with just minutes to go. Box Hill was awarded a free-kick to sneak a point with one minute to go and held on until the final siren.

Despite the shock loss, Alexander remained positive.
“Unfortunately with the loss to Box Hill we do not get the chance to defend our SSV title,” he said.
“But looking back on the year there is plenty to be happy about; winning the AFL Victoria shield, making it to the SSV state semi-finals and the way in which the girls represent the school.”

Hallam’s next challenge is a round robin tournament in Queensland early in September.
