SSV State Baseball Champions

Hallam Senior College are the 2018 SSV State Senior Baseball Champions.

A talented group of boys played exceptional baseball all day (3 games) to defeat Mildura in the grand final.

Our first game against Belmont was a very convincing victory 18 runs to 1. Against Mt Waverley we were pushed a little harder, holding only a 2 runs to 0 lead for 3 innings until we broke away in the 4th innings and eventually won the game 5 runs to 0.

The grand final was exceptionally tight with neither team scoring in the first innings. Dylan made it to first with a safe hit, then forced errors from Mildura to make it home in the second innings. Mildura took the lead in the bottom of the third innings 2 runs to our 1, forcing us to have to score 1 run to draw and 2 to go ahead or our game was over in a shortened 4 innings game. A regulation forcing a change of pitcher for Mildura was our opening with Mitch and Jordan both getting on base on base-on-balls. The team then pushed them around to put us 3 runs to 2 ahead, leaving Mildura with only one innings to go ahead.

Well done to the players for holding their nerve under pressure from the top of the Mildura line up. Mildura have won this competition for several years with teams full of South Australian state players, as Mildura Baseball Association competes in the South Australian league.

Final score, Hallam 3 runs to Mildura 2.

Congratulations to the captain Donnie (pitcher, short stop), Jordan (catcher), Tumua (first base, pitcher), Liam (second base), Cambell (third base), Mitch (pitcher, short stop, first base), Riki (right field, left field), Dylan (centre field), Callum (left field, right field) and Mohi was injured and could not play on the day but has been an integral part of our team as a short stop, outfield and pitcher.
