Yesterday the girls cricket team travelled to Oak Park to compete in the State finals. We played against Strathmore first in the semi final. They won the toss and chose to bat. We got a couple of early wickets, including that of their state player for a duck which put them under pressure to score. All our bowlers did a very good job and were backed up by clean fielding and catching. At the end of their 20 overs we had kept Strathmore to 6/65. Best of the bowlers were Sherridan Murphy 3/11 off 4 overs, and Ebony Wroe 3/6 off 4 overs.
We got off to a very good start losing our first wicket with 37 runs already on the board and comfortably passed their score at 1/74 off 13 overs. Sherridan finished 28no and Brittany Partington 23no. This win qualified us to play Mildura in the State Final
Once again found ourselves bowling first. Mildura got off to a flyer thanks to their state player who dominated the batting and finished 111no. We did ourselves no favours dropping her 4 times! They finished 6/135 off their 20 overs and the best of our bowlers were Sherridan 0/15 off 4 overs and Tiffany Brodie 2/21 off 4 overs.
Trying to chase down the total we had a few girls get starts but no one could get the big score we needed with only Ebony getting into double figures with 15. We were all out for 53 in the second last over. Mildura’s state player backed up her batting to get the figures of 6/1 off her 4 overs to seal one of the most dominate individual performances I have seen.
This was the 6th year in a row our girls cricket team has made the state final which is a terrific effort on their behalf.
