In our first entry into the SSV competition, our Senior Boys Baseball team made it all the way to the SSV State Final.
Along with Softball making the State Semi-Finals, this initial success ensures that our new Diamond Sports Academy (Baseball & Softball) will hit the ground running in 2016.
Throughout the early pool and regional games, a group with various levels of experience was able to gel and create a very competitive outfit.
On Tuesday 26th May, the Baseball team made its way to Gilbert Park, Knoxfield to compete on the State Finals.
To get to the Final the boys had to win three pool games.
Game 1 saw a strong start to the day with a comfortable win against Wodonga SC (14-1).
Game 2 against Montmorency SC was a real arm wrestle and after initially thinking we had run out of time to get the win, we eventually prevailed 3-1.
Game 3 was another tight tussle against Box Hill SSC, and we were only able to pull away late in the game (10-6) to advance to the State Final.
The State Final saw us pitted against last year’s winner Mildura SC who had also advanced through undefeated.
Unfortunately we were unable to keep our win streak going against a very good team and eventually ran out of innings with the score 6-1 Mildura’s way.
Thank you to the parents who also attend on match days and were always willing to help out where possible.
Congratulations to the Boys involved and thank you to the Girls from the Softball Academy who have assisted with scoring and other duties along the way.
The students represented the College proudly, always showing respect for the opposition, umpires and the game in general.
