Survival of the Fittest

The Hallam Intermediate Boys AFL Academy Team played in the SSV State Semi-Finals at Lois Twohig Reserve in North Dandenong on Wednesday 21st August 2013.

The Semi-Finals format requires 4 regional winners to play a round robin tournament. Each game is played over 4×11 minute quarters. The team who wins the tournament progresses to play in the state grand final at Victoria Park next Wednesday 28th August.

Hallam played Galen Christian College from Wangaratta in the first match. We unfortunately lost Gach Nyuon and Brad Homfray early to serious injuries and were immediately put under pressure with low numbers as we also lost Jason Edtmaier, Fillor Zijai and Nikola Stevancevic before the day’s play.

Hallam 14 3 87 d Wangaratta 4 3 27

The second match saw Hallam play Bairnsdale and win quite easily. Unfortunately we lost Benn Morris to injury in this match and many of our players were starting to feel the pinch.

Final scores were: Hallam 14 8 92 d Bairnsdale 2 2 14

To earn a spot in the state grand final Hallam had to play Box Hill in the final match who was also undefeated at this stage. Hallam jumped from the blocks early and never looked back.

Final scores were: Hallam 12 10 82 d Box Hill 3 2 20

It would be an injustice to name best players as every single player contributed throughout the day. Liam Myatt did win the medal as Hallam’s best player for the tournament.

We are now playing at Vic Park in the SSV State Grand Final next Wednesday 28th in the State Final (Opponent TBC).
