2015 AFL Draftees

Bailey Rice & Kurt Mutimer join the growing list of Hallam students who have become AFL footballers.

Bailey was selected by St Kilda FC with father son pick 49 while Kurt was selected by West Coast Eagles with pick 57!

Bailey is described as a medium midfielder/defender with excellent speed and power, regularly on display when bursting from the stoppages or defensive 50. Is a versatile player, being able to play in various roles within the team. Son of former Carlton premiership player Dean Rice and is eligible for Carlton or St Kilda under the father-son rule. Represented Vic Country in the NAB AFL U18 Championships this year.

St. Kilda’s Head Recruiter Tony Elshaug says:
“We’ve been able to acquire Bailey as a father-son. We’ve had Bailey at the club  for the past 18 months through the father-son program. He has improved year on year, had a very good season for Dandenong Stingrays, playing across the backline and going into the midfield and forward. He is a very powerful player with good speed, agility and can take a good mark overhead. He is very brave and can kick the ball both on his right and left. It is very exciting to have a father-son come through to the club for the first time in a number of years and he will acquit himself well.

Kurt Mutimer is a left-footed medium midfielder who is a penetrating kick, is strong overhead and has good natural pace. Important player in Victoria Country Championship-winning team, averaging 15 possessions. Had excellent season with the Stingrays.

“Can play wing, inside mid; with his speed and kick he has the potential to play other roles as well, possibly half back. We’re really pleased to get Kurt there.”
Rohan O’Brien, West Coast Eagles.

Bailey and Kurt join a growing list of Hallam students that have joined AFL clubs, and we wish them the best of luck as they work towards establishing careers as professional athletes.
